I read DELL == Dreadful Execution of Laptop saLes, and was a little surprised, as I have only had top service from DELL…. until….

I recently ordered a new flat panel. The flat panel was “on special” and a wireless keyboard and mouse were added ‘for free’. I have no need for these at all, since I already have the setup that I want.

The order was a couple of weeks ago, and I have been getting emails saying that the order is delayed. I called DELL and the order was delayed due to the damn wireless keyboard which I don’t give a monkeys about!

I am currently trying to get them to ship the damn monitor already, but the people on the other line are proving painful to work with :(

They claims that there is NO WAY for them to ship part of the order. They *need* to have all the parts come in. Isn’t that absolutely crazy? Isn’t this the DELL that revolutionized and streamlined the process?!!!

    If you order a laptop get the 3 year warranty. I got my sister a Dell laptop for Law School. She has had the motherboard replaced 3 times (usually with decent turnaround, about 1 week) and recently the screen died and they sent her a brand new laptop. However, they expected her to backup all her stuff and install it fresh on the new machine… not a pretty sight for someone who doesn’t have any experience with that kind of thing. How do you explain to people that they can’t just copy MS Office onto the new machine? Even worse, Dell expected her to backup to some intermediate machine before she got the new one so she could trade machines with the UPS guy when he dropped the new one off.

    Are they all moving to RFID or something? ;)

    I also have a three year, next business day onsite warranty but with the rate at which models become obsolete I wonder useful it is for older machines.

    Currently, my two year old latitude C840 needs a new motherboard. I hadn’t heard anything for a few days and after the third time I called the Dell person finally figured out that it was on back order. It might take a week, it could take a month…hopefully someone still manufactures them…:-(
